The classic red disc, free in your browser

Many people know the visual timer from the physical red-disc clocks used in classrooms and therapy rooms. This page gives you the same simple idea online: a red disc that you drag to set the time and that shrinks as time passes. It works on any device with a browser, and you do not need to buy, download or sign up for anything.

How to use the visual timer

  1. Set the time

Drag the coloured disc out from 12 o’clock (anticlockwise, like the classic red-disc clock), tap a preset, or open Custom for hours, minutes and seconds.

  2. Press Start

Or the Space bar. The coloured area shrinks back towards 12 o’clock as time runs out.

  3. Listen for the alarm

When the disc is empty you hear your chosen sound and see “Time’s up!”.

  4. Reset

With the reset button or the R key to run the same time again.

What you get compared with a physical timer

  • Longer than an hour

Custom lets you set hours, and Fit to time scales the disc.

  • Choice of colour

Keep classic red or pick a calmer colour.

  • Choice of sound

Five alarms with volume control, or silent.

  • Fullscreen

For projectors and TVs, with a screen wake lock.

  • Nothing to carry

It is on every phone, tablet and school computer.

A physical timer still has advantages: it needs no screen, it cannot become a distraction, and it is easy for very young children to handle. Our blog post on Time Timer vs online visual timers compares them honestly.
